Get The Perfect Fit

A well-fitted collar is a safe collar. Follow our guide below to find the right size for your pup, whether you're measuring fresh or from an existing collar.

STEP BY STEP

How to Measure Your Dog's Neck

We recommend measuring your dog's neck directly for the most accurate fit. A soft measuring tape works best. You can also use a piece of string and lay it flat against a ruler.

1

Wrap

Place a soft measuring tape around your dog's neck where the collar will sit naturally.

2

Two-Finger Check

Make sure you can comfortably fit two fingers between the tape and your dog's neck.

3

Read & Record

Note the measurement in inches. This number is what you'll use when selecting your collar size.

Measure Where the Collar Sits

Wrap the tape around the middle of your dog's neck, not too high near the ears, not too low near the shoulders. This is where the collar will naturally rest during daily wear.

Pro tip

Measure while your dog is standing and relaxed. A sitting or excited dog can change the measurement by up to an inch.

Know Your Collar Type

If you'd like to measure from a collar your dog already wears, the method differs depending on the type. Here's how to measure each one correctly.

Quick release collar measurement guide

Quick Release Collar

Measure from the end of one of the buckles to the end of the fabric/material. Do not include the buckle hardware on the opposite end.

Buckle collar measurement guide

Buckle Collar

Measure from the middle (bar) of the buckle to the most worn hole on the strap. This represents the actual fit your dog is used to.

TWO MEASUREMENTS NEEDED

Slip & I.D Collars

These collars slip over your dog's head, so we need two measurements to ensure a safe, comfortable fit.

Dog head and neck measurement guide

Neck + Head Size

Neck size: Measured the same way as our regular collars. Wrap the tape where the collar sits, allowing two fingers of space.

Head size: Measure the widest part of your dog's head, typically just in front of the ears. Measure snug. We'll add 0.5" for comfort so the collar slips on easily.

Why both?
The collar needs to fit over the head to put on, but sit snugly around the neck during wear. Two measurements ensure both.
